The village of Cold Ashton lies on the very edge of the
Cotswold escarpment overlooking the picturesque St.Catherines Valley.
Through Cold Ashton also passes the Cotswold Way footpath which is enjoyed
by hikers, ramblers and families alike. You would be forgiven for thinking
that these two dozen or so houses are all the parish consists of, but in
fact the hamlets of Pennsylvania, Hamswell, Nimlet and part of St.
Catherines and Toghill Barn make up a population of about 250
parishioners, so we are somewhat spread out. The only public house lies on
the A420, on a limb as it were, so most of the social activities revolve
around the Church and the Parish Hall.
Apart from the usual church services (as advertised on
the back cover) the church is available for concerts and recitals. The
Amberley Chamber Choir is giving its annual concert of Advent and
Christmas music on Saturday 11th Dec at 7.30pm, with mulled
wine and mince pies in the interval. This year on Sunday 19th
Dec at 6.30pm we shall also be having our Traditional Candlelit Carol
Service of Nine lessons and Carols, do come and join us in the true spirit
of Christmas.
The Parish Hall is also available for bookings,
Telephone Kath on 891783,There is a regular Yoga class on Tuesday evenings
and Thursday mornings, Telephone: 01225 315409 for more information. Every
other Thursday night is Whist Club; they are always looking for more
members to join them so ring John on 891323 to find out more. The
Parish Hall Committee run various social activities throughout the year
including BBQs and Quiz Nights these are usually well advertised and all
are welcome to join us. The next social get together is the Village
Christmas Meal. This event previously organised by the W.I. still
continues. Once again all are welcome to join us in a Traditional
Christmas Dinner followed by entertainment on Saturday 18th Dec
at 7.30pm, for further details see "From The Parishes on p3, but do hurry
as tickets are limited.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say "welcome" to
those people who have recently moved into the parish, don’t be afraid to
come along and say hello, we shall be more than pleased to see you at any
of our events.
