Diocesan Synod:

It is time to think about the elections for Diocesan Synod. All Deanery Synod Representatives have a copy of the green nomination form and though anyone standing for election to Diocesan Synod has to be nominated and seconded by a lay member of Deanery Synod, they do not have to be members themselves. There are usually three meetings a year. Lesley Farrall, Diocesan Secretary, writes "Diocesan Synod is not only the group of people who are able to discuss any major changes at Diocesan and National Church levels, they also receive interesting presentations about Christian concerns in the world about us and in all matters act as a two-way conduit between their parishes and deaneries and the Diocesan Synod. It is also from this membership that many of our Committees and councils are drawn and it is crucial that we get a good balance of skills, experience and knowledge to help in the strategic planning and decision-making that allows the Diocese to move forward.

"Please do think carefully—can I offer this service, or does my neighbour in the pew have the expertise that the Diocese needs? If so, please take the initial step of standing for election, and see where God will take you."

Chippenham Deanery has five lay members and nominations must be in by Tuesday 12th May 2009. Elections take place on 2nd July 2009.
