BENEFICE PRAYER DIARY

Marshfield with Cold Ashton, and Tormarton with West Littleton

February 2012

A Benefice Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the same yesterday, today and forever.

We thank you for our past, for the heritage and growth that you have given by your Holy Spirit.

We ask for our present, that the same Spirit will strengthen and guide this Benefice.

We pray for our future, that the new leadership, vision and gifts you give will result in honour to God alone.

In your name, Amen.

Wednesday 1st February:

During the week, please pray also:-

for the parish of Marshfield, for its PCC, and their churchwardens Eric Pullin and Paul White

for the work with children through the Kids Club and "SKIDZ" in Marshfield; for the leaders, the children and the families from which they come

for those who have physical shelter and yet are spiritually homeless. Ask that God will draw them to him, into his eternal home

Sunday 5th February: 3rd Sunday before Lent

Almighty God, who alone can bring order to the unruly wills and passions of sinful humanity: give your people grace so to love what you command and to desire what you promise, that, among the many changes of this world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

During the week, please pray also:-

for the parish of Tormarton, for its PCC, and their churchwardens Bruce Finnamore and Heather Gent

that God will give you an ever-open heart and mind to learn from him and the world in which you live

for children who are unable to access formal education because of poverty, war or gender issues

for the growth of our faith and fellowship, through the occasions when we meet during the week as well as when we share in worship on Sunday

Sunday 12th February: 2nd Sunday before Lent

Almighty God, you have created the heavens and the earth and made us in your own image: teach us to discern your hand in all your works and your likeness in all your children; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit reigns supreme over all things, now and for ever.

During the week, please pray also:-

for the parish of West Littleton, for its PCC and for their churchwardens Richard Meade and David Adams,

for families under stress - that in the midst of turmoil they may find the words which can communicate and heal,

for the Anglican Church in Uganda and in particular our link diocese of Mukono and Bishop James (on Friday, the Church remembers Janani Luwum , Archbishop of Uganda, martyred in 1977)

Sunday 19th February: Sunday Next before Lent

Almighty Father, whose Son was revealed in majesty before he suffered death upon the cross: give us grace to perceive his glory, that we may be strengthened to suffer with him and be changed into his likeness, from glory to glory; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever

Wednesday 22nd February: Ash Wednesday

Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing that you have made and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent: create and make in us new and contrite hearts that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may receive from you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

During the week, please pray also:-

for the parish of Cold Ashton, for its PCC, and their churchwardens Monica Green and Jean Purnell

for those facing long-term or life-threatening illness, and those who care for them in a hospital, hospice or at home

for our local branch of the Mothers Union and also the wider work of the MU supporting family life around the world (some of the prayers in this Diary come from "Families Worldwide" , a Mothers Union publication)

Sunday 26th February: First Sunday of Lent

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness, and was tempted as we are, yet without sin: give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit; and, as you know our weakness, so may we know your power to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

During the week, please pray also:-

for our diocesan Bishop, Mike Hill, our suffragan Bishop Lee Rayfield, and for the staff that support them in leading this diocese.

Please Note: If you would like a prayer to be included in the prayers at our Tuesday prayer group or in this Prayer Diary, please contact Paul Sawyer, 44 High St., Marshfield (891436)
